Alan Morrison - Head of Music at Creative Scotland

Formerly Alan was Group Arts Editor at The Herald and Sunday Herald (where he set up the paper’s annual Top 50 Scottish Albums of the Year), and is set to become the new Head of Music for Creative Scotland, the national cultural agency, in June 2016.

Alan has a wealth of experience within the country’s arts scene having been Editor of The List, Associate Editor of Total Film and Reviews Editor of Empire, and has worked on a variety of media partnerships with the likes of the Edinburgh International Festival, Glasgow Film Festival, National Galleries of Scotland, Celtic Connections and many more. Alan is a passionate champion of the Scottish music scene and relishes debating on the T Break judging panel to discover Scotland’s freshest unsigned talent.



CHRIS SWEENEY:
THE SCOTTISH SUN – MUSIC WRITER

Chris Sweeney - The Scottish Sun Music Writer

Chris looks after the music side of things for Scotland’s biggest selling newspaper. Since 2007, Chris has been running a weekly ‘Ones 2 Watch’ new music column. Past names featured before hitting it big include Plan B, Kassidy, Tinie Tempah and a whole host of previous T Break bands.

As well as interviewing huge international acts and reviewing most of the country’s high profile gigs, Chris fronts The Scottish Sun’s coverage at T in the Park.

As a T Break judge, Chris is looking forward to giving Scottish acts even more of a helping hand with their careers



CRAIG JOHNSTON:

Craig Johnson - DF Concerts & Events Assistant Booker

Craig joined DF Concerts after studying Music Business at Stow College and spends his time making sure the best new bands in the world are on his radar. Craig not only books local bands for King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut but also brings some of the UK’s hottest new bands to the venue. He has a weekly column in the Sunday Mail and has developed the successful King Tut’s New Year’s Revolution and Summer Nights festivals.

As well as being on the judging panel, Craig has also worked as an artist liaison on the T Break Stage for the last 4 years, meaning he develops a relationship with the bands from the point they get through the competition until they walk onto the stage at T in the Park.



DAVE MCGEACHAN:
SENIOR PROMOTER AT DF CONCERTS & EVENTS

Dave McGeachan - DF Concerts & Events Senior Promoter

Throughout his sixteen years at DF Concerts, Dave has been a champion of new talent and his approach has made him popular with a huge number of artists including The Killers, Biffy Clyro, Kaiser Chiefs, Paramore, Paolo Nutini and Kasabian, all of whom he has booked from King Tut’s right through to arenas, stadiums and T in the Park.

Dave has also been responsible for bringing new acts to Scotland such as Jake Bugg, John Newman, Disclosure, Tom Odell and Bastille over the last few years; plus producing the program of artists for Rock n Roll Damnation, which is now in its fifth year. As well as booking some of the world’s top acts he continues to oversee the booking of King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow



DAVID O’HAGAN:
MUSIC BUSINESS LECTURER – WEST COLLEGE SCOTLAND

David O'Hagan - Music Business Lecturer at West College Scotland

David has been on the T Break panel since 2003 and worked in A&R for 13 years, starting as a scout at Sony Music, before moving over to music publishing at BMG, and then back to the recording industry with Universal Music, where he worked at Mercury Records for 7 years. He currently works at the Greenock campus of West College Scotland teaching Music Business and runs a weekly new music night called The Beatclub.



JEN ANDERSON:
Manager at Euphonios, Fiction A&R Scout, Director at Railroad Music

Jen Anderson - Manager of Euphenios Management & Records

Jen founded Euphonios in 2007 whilst working as a promoter, where she booked for King Tuts and other venues across Scotland. She has a great deal of major and independent label experience, working as an A&R Scout for Fiction Records and setting up and running King Tuts Recordings, as well as touring with Izzy Bizu, Iggy Azalea and Eliza Doolittle, amongst others.

She has served on the boards of AIM and SMIA, and holds down a number of additional roles; including a tour coordinator for Sound Travels Live, working with acts such as Kiesza, Kano, Kelis and Duke Dumont.



JIM GELLATLY:

Jim Gellatly - Broadcaster

Jim has firmly established himself as one of Scotland’s leading exponents of new music. Having served time at various local and national radio stations, he’s played a role in uncovering many of the most important bands around and was the first to ever play Biffy Clyro and Twin Atlantic on the radio.

Jim presents a weekly New Music showcase on Amazing Radio, as well as hosting a weekly podcast, writing a column for the Scottish Sun and regularly DJs and hosts events throughout Scotland.

LOUIE: HECTOR BIZERK

Louie is front man in Glasgow band Hector Bizerk, widely acclaimed as one of the best live acts in the country. His writing has drawn comparisons to James Kelman, Gil Scott-Heron and Irvine Welsh and his keen ear for original and thought provoking lyrics will prove very valuable as a T Break judge. Louie is currently a very active member of Scotland’s music scene and has recent first-hand experience of the T Break process. T Break are delighted to have his experience and opinions on board.



JOHN PAUL MASON:
DF CONCERTS & EVENTS – GIG REP

John Paul Mason - DF Concerts & Events Gig Rep

John Paul Mason started out writing for Is This Music? before going on to book shows for the award-winning Tigerfest. For three years he hosted a show on Leith FM dedicated to the best in emerging Scottish talent. John Paul was the live music booker at The Electric Circus for two and a half years and has worked as Artist Liaison for the T Break Stage at T in the Park since 2012. He joined DF Concerts in December 2013 and is a member of the Events team and gig rep at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut.



RICK FULTON:
DAILY RECORD – SHOWBIZ EDITOR

Rick Fulton - Daily Record Showbiz Editor

Rick is the showbiz editor of the Daily Record and has interviewed acts like Kings of Leon, Paolo Nutini and Franz Ferdinand when they were just starting out. Rick is a huge fan of new music in Scotland and for the past decade, has reviewed over 700 new unsigned acts a year in his weekly Soundcheck column. Glasvegas and Frightened Rabbit are amongst the acts that have sent their first demos to Soundcheck which has also given Scottish hip hop and electro a platform for promotion not available elsewhere.



VIC GALLOWAY:

Vic Galloway - Radio Broadcaster, TV Presenter, Journalist & Creative Scotland Advisor

Vic, who has been a T Break judge for more than 10 years, is a well-loved and respected broadcaster, presenter and journalist with knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for music and arts across all genres. For over 11 years, Vic presented a weekly new music show on Radio 1 and continues to broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland every Monday and Friday night playing the best new and emerging music from Scotland and beyond.

As a freelance journalist, Vic does regular work for newspapers and magazines including regular music columns for the Sunday Herald newspaper and websites such as dearscotland.com.

He also hosts events including Edinburgh’s legendary hogmanay celebrations, DJ’s in clubs and universities and on top of working as a specialist advisor for Creative Scotland and writing a book on music from the East Neuk of Fife, he is still writing, performing and producing his own music.



YVONNE MCLELLAN:

Yvonne Mclellan - Co-Director, Native Publishing

Yvonne is the director of Scottish based music publishing company Native Publishing and is an A&R Scout for Spinnup, a discovery platform for Island Records.

Model Aeroplanes were the first UK artist to sign to Island via Spinnup and Yvonne is hugely excited by initiatives like T-Break in helping find the latest new emerging talent to potentially work with.

Wearing a few hats in the music industry since the late 1990’s Yvonne has a breadth of experience working with companies like Island Records, V2 Music, Sony ATV and Rawkus and working for artists such as Mos Def, Pharoahe Monche, Eminem and Oasis to running her own record shop and lecturing.


SHARON STEPHEN:

Sharon Stephen – Artist Manager

Sharon has encompassed many roles within her 15 years’ experience of working within the Music Industry spanning areas which would range from: Publishing, Press & Promotions, A&R to Live Production for Companies which include: V2, Sony Music, RCA, Columbia Records and AEG Live.
Sharon Co-founded and established an Artist Management Company in 2008 looking after the welfare of young Edinburgh based band We Were Promised Jetpacks and further down the line picking-up The Phantom Band of which she went on to co-manage until 2014. Sharon is now managing ‘The Van T’s’ and co-managing several emerging artists.
This year will see Sharon’s 10th year serving on the T Break judging Panel.


CHRIS BELTRAN:

Chris Beltran

Chris is a musician, booker and regional scout for Atlantic Records. Not only does he have his ear very much to the ground when it comes to under the radar acts in Scotland, he has also played with huge T Break success story, Fatherson. Chris has been attending T in the Park as a fan and a musician since 2004 and is looking forward to his new role as a T Break judge, helping new Scottish acts gain exposure through T Break.
